In addition to regular Teaching & Learning professional development sessions, such as LEaP, U-CLaSS, and the twice-weekly Active Teaching Labs, the Academy holds and co-sponsors several major events each year:
Fall Retreat: Each Fall, after the semester begins, we gather for a morning of conversations on themes in higher education teaching and learning such as grading and providing prompt and effective feedback to students.
Members Only Event: There are generally two Members Only events per year, in October and April. They include light appetizers and a cash bar, but more importantly provide a space for Fellows and Future Faculty Partners to come together as an entire membership to discuss the mission and direction of the UW-Madison Teaching Academy. The Spring event follows an Induction Event for new Fellows and FFPs.
Winter Retreat: Right before the spring semester starts, the Teaching Academy holds a morning retreat to share about current issues ideas in campus teaching and learning. Previously we discussed topics such as: effective learning and teaching engagement and feedback on our teaching from colleagues.
Teaching and Learning Symposium: The Teaching Academy proudly collaborates with other Teaching & Learning communities on campus and sponsors of the Teaching & Learning Symposium each spring. Held after the spring semester, this event draws a large crowd of faculty and instructional staff, who participate in specialized sessions by their colleagues, plenary sessions, and plenty of time for reconnecting with friends.
Summer Institute: The Teaching Academy Summer Institute (TASI) offers a four-day “gentle boot camp” experience in faculty development and curriculum innovation. With the help of a community of support, they redesign courses, or design entirely new ones.
