Context: In April 2024, a new accessibility rule was passed by the DOJ that requires all content in use by the University to be fully accessible (see: The New DOJ Rule on Web Accessibility: What Educators Need to Know – CIDDL). This new rule goes into effect April 2026, and requires all course related content to be fully accessible (screen readable documents, captioned videos, canvas pages screen, etc.) regardless of an accommodation request or lack thereof. UW-Madison has formed a committee to create a report that will bring to light any barriers that exist to be in compliance with this new policy, along with what resources we think we need to be in compliance.

We want your thoughts! Emily Baker (CTLM) and Jonathan Klein (L&S) are co-leading a sub-committee focusing on our LMS (Canvas) and academic content. We are interested in talking with members of the Teaching Academy to ensure we have instructors’ perspectives on existing barriers and needed resources.
